Dart Rules for Cricket Darts.
A lot of people consider the dart game cricket to be their favorite dart game. For many people, this is the first darts game and set of dart rules that they will learn. This is the game that you most often see people playing in bars across South Africa. This is not like the x01 games because the game is based on strategic moves that allow a player with weaker skills to beat a player with stronger skills. So, there is some thinking and planning involved to gain an advantage in the Darts Game Cricket.
The Object of the game:: To win the game, you have to close every one of your numbers and you need to have more points than your competitor. That means your darts must land on each number three times. Starting from 20, work your way down to 15, then the bull's eye. If you are playing with a friend and you have some time you can always play from 20 down to 1 to make the game go on a little longer.
The Scoring of the game:: In the picture you can see exactly which parts of the dartboard is being used to score points. If a player lands a dart in the single scoring area (E) it counts as one hit. When a player hits a number in the double space (A), that counts as two hits. Triples are counted as three hits (B). The ring that is just outside of the bull's eye (C) is worth 25 points. The inner ring of the bull's eye (D) is worth 50 points.
When a player is the first one who hits a number three times (3 singles, a double and a single or a triple), he owns that number and it is "open". Any subsequent hits on that opened number score that amount of points. Hitting a number on the double ring will net him double the value of the number. For instance, if the dart landed on 17, but in the double space, he gets 34 points for this. Similar logic applies to the triple. The triple, inner ring awards three times the number's value. So if a dart landed on the number 17's triple space, the player gets 51 points.
If an opponent lands 3 darts in one of your "open" numbers he closes it and the number is taken away from play. When a player closes all of his numbers and has at least the number points that his opponent has or more, he wins the game. If a player closes all his numbers but has less points than his opponent, he does not win yet. He has to keep throwing until he has earned more points if he can. If your opponent has a higher score than you and is able to close his numbers before you reach his score he will be the winner.
The Play: Before you start a game, all the players have to figure out who goes first. There is popular method in determining this. Each player gets a turn at throwing a dart, aiming at the bullseye. Whoever gets his dart closest to the bull's eye will go first. Then, everyone takes turns throwing and building up points.
There is a darts game etiquette that you should be aware of. When a player shoots too many points, that can lead to a fight in the bar. In a game of darts, sportsmanship is emphasized. It is a civilized game played politely. A player should not show off and be a "point monger". Staying a head by 25 to 50 points is not frowned upon. However, if a strong player keeps throwing more points on a weaker player, that is not seen as good sportsmanship. Therefore, it is important to watch your etiquette so that you do not cause offense to the other players.
If a player is weaker, that does not make him an automatic loser.
Strategy: A good strategic move is to start with closing the high numbers, then work your way down. This is because when points are scored, and you have the high numbers closed, you force your opponent to throw two high numbers after they are closed in order to keep up with the points. However, if you apply this approach, keep in mind that your opponent will remember what you did and may turn the tables on you. Also, this strategy may not work if your opponent keeps hitting bullseyes. You would have wasted darts on other points instead of trying for those bullseyes. When you sense that your opponent is not too concerned about you throwing a lot of points, watch out for that.
A friendly game of darts is a perfectly good way to mingle with people at the bar. Cricket is easy to learn. Even a novice can develop his skills quickly if he knows that right approach and strategy. There are many forms of dart games, and Cricket seems the most popular. If you have never tried it before, you owe it to yourself to try it at least once. You may end up enjoying it.
